 The Simsol Cost Database is the only one of its kind in the property insurance industry. Our databases are derived from using Craftsman Publishing core data such as labor productivities, item-specific tradesman and crew rates and their nationwide construction cost 3-digit zip code cost factoring matrix. Craftsman has been publishing cost data for over 50 years and its cost guides can be found in the bookshelves of thousands of adjusting professionals all across the country.
What’s unique about our databases is that we just don’t rely on Craftsman’s cost book for the most up-to-date average pricing around the country. Simsol also retains the use of cost consultants who visit the “big box” material suppliers as well as local lumber yards to verify our material database pricing is in line with the local suppliers.
In addition to Craftsman data and our own research, we tap into the knowledge base of our thousands of users. With over 1,000,000 estimates in the Simsol Data Warehouse and thousands more coming in every month, our cost analysts examine pricing agreed to by policyholders and contractors in recently closed and settled claims by gathered from our users. This data is compared to our independent research to fine-tune the final pricing updates we use in the software.
All core and materials pricing is updated quarterly and in times of catastrophe we issue special advisories upon request on how pricing should or should not be adjusted during catastrophe-related reconstruction.
